Employee Lunch Room

Brownies, cookies, donuts....it nevers ends. It seems like every time you visit the lunch area, there is a new plate of ooey gooey goodness to pound down.

How to Handle This: If you absolutely can't walk away from the treat, take it back to your office space, take a bite and throw the rest away. I know this sounds wasteful, but admittedly I have done this many times, I'd rather pack it in the trash, then on my hips and I still satisfied my urge.

A suggestion that works for some people is to set times during the day when it's ok to have a snack. We don't need to be shoveling food in our mouths nonstop all day long. Make yourself wait an hour and a half or two hours to put food in your mouth again......oh, and think healthy!

Vegetables - Not Mush

Growing up, my mom was not so talented in the vegetable department. It was a short list of carrots, potatoes, onions, and celery. When she cooked them, they were mush.

Vegetables are a great way to help you fill up without gaining weight....unless you slather them with butter. Experiment when cooking vegetables so they are done the way you will eat them. You can steam, boil, or fry them in a pan. Carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower are great when they still have a little chew to them.
Branch out....,my latest veggie is butternut squash. I cut it in half, don't bother to scoop out the seeds til later, turn it upside down on a cookie sheet, cover with foil and bake it in the oven until it is soft. Scoop out the seeds and put a little butter, salt and pepper on it. YUMMY!

Drudgery - The Gym

I made a decision to go to the gym every day. I don't allow my brain to talk myself out of a decision I made long ago.....don't even go there......the decision has been made.
Even though every day is a new day, it's a given that you will pack your gym bag and go.
HELPFUL HINT: Buy a 2nd set of hair products and make-up to keep in a gym bag. That way you do not have to pack that stuff every day.
Caution: Individuals that have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, heart issues or other unique abilities need to be careful when approaching weights and work outs. Consult your doctor and if you hire a personal trainer, make sure they are properly trained on your situation.

Yogurt not Ice Cream

Nancy's Yogurt is sooooo good for you. The yogurt is pretty strong so we add a tiny bit of maple syrup to take the edge off. Our cold and flu season has gone much better due to Nancy's active cultures that fight off sickness. Get smart about the brand of yogurt you use. Many are loaded with sugar and sweetners and do not have enough active cultures to do the trick.

Instead of ice cream at night, I eat a small bowl of nancy's to help with my bed time snack cravings. Now don't get all crazy on me, I still eat ice cream with my birthday cake.
